The Man Cheong Festival, also referred to as the Festival of the Hungry Ghosts, is a significant event in Chinese culture, celebrated on the 15th night of the seventh lunar month. This festival is dedicated to honoring deceased ancestors and appeasing wandering spirits. According to tradition, it is believed that during this period, the gates of the underworld open, allowing spirits to return to the earthly realm. To welcome these souls, families prepare elaborate offerings, including food, incense, and paper money, placed on altars or at street corners.Communal activities are also integral to the festival, featuring vibrant street performances, traditional Chinese opera, and lion dances, which serve to entertain both the living and the spirits.
